History of our Company

Lynn H. Steele, founder of Steele Rubber Products, started his Tool & Die shop in the Detroit area in 1958. During the day, he would build stamping dies for Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers to the auto companies. In the evenings he was building racing and recreational go-carts. In the early 1960’s, Lynn purchased a 1931 Cadillac to restore. As many restorers can relate to, he found it difficult to find many parts for it including the rubber parts. Being a tool and die maker, Lynn tooled a few molds and rented some press time from a local rubber shop to make the parts he needed for his own restoration. As members of several local car clubs saw that he was making parts, they asked if he would make parts for them as well. Lynn worked in the evenings on restoration parts, bought a rubber press, and sold them from home while keeping his tool and die business running during the day.

In 1975 Lynn became tired of the Michigan winter and moved the business south to Denver, North Carolina and concentrated on making rubber restoration parts. He continued to keep his tooling capability so he could design, tool, manufacture, and sell all under one roof. Following his passion of classic cars, Lynn continued to expand the product line of hard to find seals and moldings to many different makes and models of domestic vehicles. With quality parts and dedication, Steele Rubber Products continues to grow and thrive. This year we celebrate our 60th Anniversary, as well as being a 3rd generation business, still carrying on the same passion for classic cars, trucks, hot-rods, and now adding RV’s and recreational boats.
